Who We Are

The USO brings ?a touch of home? to the U.S. military and their families. USO El Paso provides support for wounded troops, youth literacy programs, entertainment, care packages, phone cards, support at deployment and homecoming events, a Mobile Canteen which serves food to service members in remote training locations, and a modern facility featuring gaming stations, home theater, computer and wireless internet access, library/study room, cell phones, and snack bar?all FREE of charge. The USO is, by congressional charter, the people?s covenant with the armed forces that their sacrifices are appreciated. This covenant has been ? and will continue to be ? delivered in large part by the USO?s most important resource, its VOLUNTEERS! More than 35,000 members in the USO International Corps of Volunteers provide an estimated nearly 400,000 hours of service annually, a worldwide personal contribution of more than $3 million. From welcoming home deployed troops at 0200 to relieving the loneliness of an individual soldier/sailor/airman/Marine or Coast Guardsman; the volunteer contribution in delivering a touch of home is the USO?s primary asset. The USO El Paso is committed to Professional Development for Center Volunteers. After completing the application, volunteer training begins with the initial interview with the Volunteer Coordinator to ascertain if there is a good fit between the individual and the USO. The next steps in training are the Volunteer Orientation and then working with a Shift leader or other experienced USO Volunteer. USO El Paso will offer additional mandatory or optional training as appropriate for professional development. Past training includes an optional seminar on Communication and a mandatory class on Customer Service. Some USO El Paso Center Volunteers take on the additional responsibilities of Shift Leader to include, signing for a key and alarm code, opening and/or closing the Center, and mentoring and training new volunteers.

What We Do

The USO is the bridge between the American people and the U.S. armed forces & their families. We convey appreciation and gratitude by providing a comforting, homelike experience through entertainment, recreation and connectivity. Since before the United States entered World War II, the USO (United Service Organizations) has been the bridge between the American public and the U.S. military. In times of peace and war, the USO has consistently delivered its special brand of comfort, morale and recreational services to the military. The USO, a congressionally chartered, private, nonprofit organization, relies on the generosity of individuals and corporations to support USO activities.
