Volunteers needed for the Poverty Simulation. Persons recruited as volunteer staffers are asked to think about how to provide realistic portrayals that will contribute greatly to the success of the experience.
GOAL
The poverty simulation is a unique, interactive experience that helps people begin to understand what life is like with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress. The simulation moves you to be more sensitive to the feelings and needs of those who are living in the crisis of poverty.
DESCRIPTION
The simulation involves 44-80 participants who take on the roles of members of 26 families, all facing a variety of challenging, but typical circumstances. Participants are seated in family clusters and community resources are located at the tables around the perimeter of the room. The activity includes an introduction and briefing by a facilitator, the simulation exercise and a facilitated debriefing in which participants and volunteers share what they have learned about living in poverty.
