Who We Are

We offer free classes and support groups (in English & Spanish) to family members & loved ones of those with a mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or depression.  Family-to-Family (Familia a Familia) is a 12 session class teaching coping skills, specific disorder information, communication techniques, medications and advocacy.  Basics is a 6 session class for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents with a mental illness.  We also offer Peer-to-Peer and In Our Own Voice opportunities.

There are free weekly support groups; Family-to-Family (F2F) for the families and loved ones of those with mental illness and Connections, a peer based support group for those with a brain disorder.  They are held at 7 p.m. every Monday evening at El Paso Behavioral Health, 1900 Denver.  Same time, same building, different rooms. NAMI El Paso and EPBH are partnering to make these support groups possible. Drop-ins are welcome, just ask at the EPBH desk for the specific room number. Call NAMI at 534-5478 for more information.

You must be at least 18 to attend classes and support groups.

There is also a support group in Spanish at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of every month.  It is held at the Mother Teresa Room at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1067 N. Clark.

What We Do

Mission Statement: To Advocate at all levels to ensure that all persons affected by mental illness receive the services that they need and deserve in a timely fashion.

NAMI El Paso was established locally in 1986 and was first housed in the garage of one of the founders. Since relocating to the El Paso Psychiatric Center, we have been successful in helping families by giving free education, information, and support. We are trying to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness through education.
