A Teachers’ Night with Erin Gruwell
Join YWCA El Paso del Norte Region on Wednesday, April 26th at 6:00PM as we present a special evening with Erin Gruwell: educator, humanitarian and this year’s YWCA Women’s Luncheon Keynote Speaker. Because we know many teachers are unable to join us at our 24th Annual Women’s Luncheon, this exclusive YWCA event for teachers and school staff is an opportunity to hear from Erin and learn about her unique teaching philosophy.
By creating an environment that promoted diversity, Erin transformed her students’ lives. With her support, they learned to reconsider rigid beliefs about themselves and others, evaluate daily decisions, and ultimately redirected their futures. They chronicled their journey together in The Freedom Writers Diary, which became the critically acclaimed film Freedom Writers starring Academy Award winner, Hilary Swank, as Erin.
Erin established the Freedom Writers Foundation (FWF) to help students overcome adversity, graduate from high school, and go to college. She provides educators the knowledge to teach using the Freedom Writers Method—a model that makes lessons relevant to kids and allows teachers to see that ‘every kid can make it’.
This is a free event! It will take place at the El Paso Community College Administrative Services Center, Building A 9050 Viscount.
